They, of course, being Topside. Think of them as similar to Karteria's upper classes, or Patho-Gen. People who saw me and mine as laborers and worth nothing more than what we could lift, manufacture, or pick out of the ground.
Last time I tried, they shot some of us on a bridge, murdered a good number of us, and the few that were left were divided on whether to capitulate and do what they wanted anyway, or keep fighting.
I still bear scars from that day, and the lessons learned tend to stick with someone.
